Planning

The following tools will guide you through the entire process of planning to use the Reproductive Health Assessment After Disasters (RHAD) toolkit.

Planning Checklist

This checklist will help you plan for and conduct assessments of the reproductive health needs of women affected by natural disaster. The planning process should be initiated prior to securing funding. The amount of time required for the planning process will vary depending on your agency's infrastructure and resources. Consider this checklist as a model that can be adapted as necessary to meet your specific needs and situation. You can also change the sequence of activities as needed.

1. Prepare for the Assessment
2. Train the Interviewers
3. Conduct the Assessment
4. Data Entry and Analysis
5. Report Writing and Dissemination

Cost Estimate

The cost estimate will help you to approximate the costs associated with conducting an assessment of the reproductive health needs of women affected by disaster. The costs associated with carrying out the assessment will vary depending on the situation and the types of resources available to you and your agency. Thus, the cost estimate is meant as a general guide to help you forecast the costs and develop a budget.

1. Questionnaire Development
2. Training the Assessment Team
3. Questionnaire Implementation
4. Data Entry
5. Data Analysis
6. Dissemination and Report Writing

Budget Template

The budget template is merely an example budget to help you plan for an assessment of the reproductive health needs of women affected by disaster. Since the costs associated with carrying out a reproductive health needs assessment will vary depending on the situation and the resources available to you, the budget template is only meant to serve as a general guide to assist you with the planning process.

We strongly recommend seeking donations for supplies and volunteer labor to reduce overall costs. The sample donation letter can be modified to help you solicit supply donations from local merchants. Volunteer labor is often available through local universities, and graduate or advanced students seeking practical experience can help with conducting interviews, cleaning data, analyzing data, or assisting with report writing and dissemination.
